Just as its announced that hari raya will be celebrated tomorrow, i heard my muslim neighbours rejoice. Non muslims rejoiced too, 2 off days too.
I recalled hari raya as it is 28 years ago (i am 42 now). Living in a close knitted neighbourhood comprising of 20 Malay families, 20 indian families and 1 chinese family, we happen to be a big family.
All festivals are welcomed with joy! As kids we roam our neighbourhood without fear. We join our malay friends lighting up the "pelita"...malam 7 likur used to be fun and bright!
My neighbour, kak timah use to send lemang and rendang for breakfast besides the tray laden with home made cookies and cakes. They all tastes great back then.
We visit our school friends, take bus rides and stay out until evening visiting almost everyone back then. We travelled in groups, we are all the same, we are one!
I wish to remember hari raya as it was back then.
To all my muslim friends, i wish you selamat hari raya, maaf zahir dan batin.
